V-Legal Documents are Indonesian export licences attesting legality.
When the timber legality assurance system is fully working as described in the Indonesia-EU Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA), Indonesia will issue V-Legal Documents as FLEGT licences for timber bound for the EU.

Since January 1st 2015 all wooden furniture (to the exception of bamboo) is subject to the new « V LEGAL FURNITURE/SVLK » export licence.
- All petrified wood / fossil items cannot be exported from Bali.
- All ironwood items are subject to special export restrictions so please take pictures and check with us before buying.
Other wooden items than furniture
The below listed items can be all regrouped under the same “V Legal” licence per shipping.
Handicraft
The “V Legal Handicraft” might be mandatory under several criteria (contact us for more information).
Decking & flooring
Beside the “V Legal” licence, the decking/flooring in wood are subject to the following conditions:
INTERIOR :
- the surface (width x length) by piece (or plank or board) cannot be superior to 40 cm²,
- the wood cannot be raw (it must be processed / profiled /planed).
EXTERIOR:
- the thickness by piece (or plank or board) cannot be superior to 3.5 cm,
- the width by piece (or plank or board) cannot be superior to 20 cm,
- any piece (or plank or board) needs to be grooved (4 mm) on the whole length.
Door or window frame
Beside the “V Legal” licence, the door or window frames are subject to the following conditions:
- No size limit applies if it is assembled,
- If it is prefabricated (but not assembled), the maximal dimensions are: 3 cm thick and a 20 cm wide.
Wooden house, gazebo or bungalow
Beside the “V Legal” licence, the wooden house, gazebo or bungalow are subject to the following conditions:
- Technical drawings and/or pictures will be required.
Wooden kitchenware
All wooden kitchenware such as spoons, bowls, plates, picture frames, mirror frames, decorative frames… require also a “V Legal” licence.
This single use document confirms the legal origin of the wood and is currently accepted by all destination countries.
The export of stone goods from Indonesia is now subject to two separate licenses:
- LHI : common stones items and petrified wood statues,
- LS : granite, marble and onyx items, all pebbles, all petrified wood items (except statues).
International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15)
is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
Special regulation for Wood Packaging Material (WPM) that all WPM have to be treated before it is used to accompany the shipment. The WPM have to be stamped with IPPC label. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.)
